24 Seasons at Komyo-in Temple (Work in progress)

Shigemori Mirei was fond of the idea that rocks—the oldest things we can find on earth—are where we can find gods. The rocks he placed in the Hasshin-no-niwa (aka. The Garden of the Wave of the Heart) at Komyo-in Temple were therefore meant to represent the Buddhas and the gods. It is for this reason that Komyo-in Temple is part of the Alternative Fushimi Inari Walking Tour. Fushimi Inari is home to thousands of rocks inscribed with the names of gods, and by visiting both sites together we get a sense of how Buddhism and Shintoism continue to exist alongside each other.
